Morocco - Kingdom of Maghreb
"The Kingdom of the Maghreb" is the fairy tale 1001 night in the north of Africa.
The medinas in one of this outstanding roayal cities, these pearls in the sahara region of the Maghreb. The narrow alleys in the medinas of Rabat, Fes, Meknes and Marrakesh. The palm oasis in the valleys nearby the Atlas with its snow covered mountains which we are able to see from the lower level of the desert area. Way until the reach of early summer. The Sandseas - Ergs - with its narrow packed dunes. More than often not that easy to pass.
Queds - wadis, out of a sudden raging rivers after heavy rain in the far Atlas mountains. More than enough travellers where in trouble because of this.
Our trip will, as usual since 2005, follow rarely used tracks in the Atlas mountains, cross and follow wadis and lead into the Ergs Chebbi and Chigaga near Merzouga in the deep south of the country. A full basket of adventure and offroad travelling with more than a good portion of expedition feeling.
This trip encounters, next to the character of an expedition, as well the culture, the people and ancient archeological sites.
The medinas with its outstanding typical maghrebinian nightlife, The souks - Rabat at night - always a very welcome opportunity for a walk through the medina and a refreshing tea or a coffee in one of the street cafes.
Marrakesh and its Jema el Fna - the place of the beheaded or hanged - with its colourful floating life of story tellers, wizards, food stands, snake summoners and its living souk.

In 2 of this royal cities we will spend our nights in so called riads. Wonderful old guesthouses in the moore style. Some of them kept for generations in the same family.
Another night will be spent in a Kasbah in the middle of a palm oasis. For this it is necessary to book your adventure at an early point. There we will have the chance to use a hammam and have a massage. Very welcome after lots of offroad tracks. The small chalets here are lovely decorated.
Another highlight will be a private obsavatory in the middle of the desert. The not existing backlight out here is necessary for the possibility of watching the universe with its galaxies and stars, at such a quality. Some of my clients had been held awake by the owner until dawn more than once in the past. Breathtaking.

The other nights will be spent under the one million star hotel, in the godgiven nature of North Africa. Mostly on a campfire, always with enough time for a chat.

"What makes Morocco for me so outstanding, is the possibility to live a tough offroad adventure, together with the opportunity for high quality overnight stays, every now and than.
I love sleeping outside in my swag or in my roof top tent. Spending the nights beside the campfire under this extraordinary starry sky. The milky way in sight, the flair of the bonfire in my nose, the silence of the desert in my ears and the dust and dirt of the day in my boots.
Than, after exhausting days in the bush, I love to stand at the bar with a sundowner. Awaiting a refreshing shower, a comfortable place to lay my head and a first class dinner in a riad that is several centuries old or in a lodge in the middle of the african bush."

Why going on a ferry from Genua?
Because the total amount in travelling overland from South Germany to Spain is the same. But, the stress is less. Two days through half Europe, before the holiday starts. Another point might be, all travellers meet on the boat and can have a decent look at each other.
There is something written about this under the point philosophie on this website. Sorry, not yet translated into english.
English and French might like to go an a ferry boat in France. No worries, ask for a quote.
If you decide to travel to Tanger in Morocco, where this expedition starts, on your own, the price will go down by around 1.000 €
